Newark Mayor: ICE Raided Business Without a Warrant, Detained U.S. Citizens

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement brokers carried out a raid on a Newark enterprise Thursday, detaining non-citizens and residents alike, town’s mayor and the company confirmed. … Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka issued a press release late Thursday afternoon denouncing the raid as an “egregious act” carried out and not using a warrant and in violation of the Fourth Modification of the U.S. Structure, which ensures “the fitting of the individuals be safe of their individuals, homes, papers, and results, towards unreasonable searches and seizures.” “One of many detainees is a U.S. army veteran who suffered the indignity of getting the legitimacy of his army documentation questioned,” added Baraka, a Democrat searching for his get together’s nomination for governor this 12 months. “Newark won’t stand by idly whereas persons are being unlawfully terrorized.” An ICE spokesperson later issued a press release confirming that the raid had occurred and acknowledging that U.S. residents could have been detained.”
